Budapest

Budapest, the capital of Hungary, is often termed as the Paris of the east and is one of the popular tourist destinations of the world with its picturesque setting, fine buildings and great atmosphere and climate. The beautiful and vivid setting on two sides of the river Danube, together with the connecting bridges, and the great villas and public buildings make Budapest a complete holiday package for most of the tourists who want to experience finer things in their travel itinerary.





Fast Facts
Budapest consists of three cities. Buda, and Obuda on the west side of the river Denuba and Pest on the opposite side. Today Obuda and Buda are often just referred to as Buda, with majority of tourists attractions such as palaces and spas, and the more commercial area is known as Pest.

How to go
Budapest is fast becoming an international tourist destination and is well connected with major European, American and Asian cities with regular and frequent flights connecting its international airport. Having reached the city, public transport is the best way to experience the city. Budapest transport system is called BKV (Budapest Kozlekedesi Vallalat). This system has busses, subways, trams, trains running throughout the city and suburbs and is most efficient, affordable and convenient. Private taxies are also available in plenty.

Where to Stay
Budapest is a relatively less expensive destination hence plenty of options are available for tourists for accommodation in terms of hotels, motels, youth hostels, private apartments, backpackers apartments and others. Even best of the hotels offer great discount and packages and it is advisable to negotiate a deal with them especially during non seasons.





Major Attractions
The most famous landmark of Budapest is the Parliament building on the banks of the river Danube. Castle Hill, a site most frequently visited by the tourists and visitors offers a panoramic view of the city in all its glory and grandeur. Budapest is the city of great palaces, churches, museums and monuments and keeps the visitors busy with its myriad attractions and offerings. The National Museum (Nemzeti Muzeum), the Museum of Fine Arts (Szepmuveszeti Muzeum), National Gallery (Nemzeti Galeria) and the Historical Museum of Budapest are a must see in the itinerary of every visitor and offer great insight into the historical period and arts and culture of the city. The statue of Liberty is another attraction which offers panoramic view over Buda, Pest and the Szabadsag bridge. On the Pest side of town are also a number of tourists’ attraction such as Hero Square (Hosok tere), with several museums, castles (Vajdahunyad castle), the zoo, and the diplomatic enclave housing foreign embassies and the St. Stephan basilica.

Night Life
In recent times, Budapest has become a very vibrant city with many good restaurants, pubs, cafes, operas, bars, discotheques offering great nightlife scene. Budapest also offers great gourmet experience with a variety of exotic and fancy restaurants as well as cheap options offering value for money meals.
