Mauritius is located approximately 2000 kms. to the south eastern coast of Africa and lies east of Madagascar. The country covers an area of 1865 km with 330 km of coastline. It is a small place with 45km in width and 65km in length. The Mauritian economy is based on four sectors: Textile, Tourism, Sugar and Services. Mauritius is a blend of diverse cultures and religions. The population consists of Hindus, Creole, Chinese, Muslims and Europeans. The monetary unit is the Mauritian Rupee (Rs.) which is divided into 100 cents. Currently, one Euro is worth around Rs. 30. The temperature is mostly mild across seasons and varies between 22°C in winter and 34°C in summer. English and French are the main languages.





How to Reach
Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam at Mauritius airport is well connected with most of the international airports in USA, Europe and Asia. Air Mauritius, the national carrier operates more than 30 weekly flights to and from all the European major cities including 15 combined flights with Air France to and from Paris. British Airways operates four weekly flights, Emirates Airlines three and Condor one. Air India also connects major cities in India to Mauritius. For local transport, you can hitch a ride and also take bikes and scooters on hire.

Places to See
Grand Bay- A shopping and leisure paradise, Grand Bay is one of the most popular tourist's spots and is abuzz with restaurants, bars and discos which offer tremendous night life. The wonderful Pereybere public beach is popular because of its shopping facilities, restaurants and pubs. The ruins of the old Balaclava estate can be visited to see the sea walls. Triolet- the longest village on the island, offers an opportunity to visit the biggest Hindu temple, the Maheswarnath, built in 1819. Flacq is one of the most important villages in Mauritius and boasts of the country's largest open air market. The extremely colorful market attracts a large number of tourists as well as local populace.
